What is it?
Women may desire improvement of their labia for various reasons. Women may naturally have large labia, or they may become bigger or stretched with age or after childbirth. Often women will wish to make the labia smaller and restore them to a younger more rejuvenated appearance. Additionally, enlarged labia can also cause problems with rubbing, chafing, pain and sores during exercise, daily activity, or sexual intercourse. A labiaplasty can help to treat symptoms as well as improve the appearance of the vaginal area. If you wish to get a labiaplasty in Houston, visit us at Lift Plastic Surgery.
What happens during surgery/recovery?
During a labiaplasty, extra tissue is removed and the incisions are closed with absorbable sutures. You are able to go home the same day. You should expect to have some swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the area, and possibly some burning with urination. This usually subside significantly in a few days, but may take a few weeks to completely resolve. We ask that you perform sitz baths several times a day to ensure that the area stays clean while it is healing. The labia have excellent blood supply and tend to heal quickly with very minimal scarring. We ask that you refrain from exercise, vigorous activity and sexual intercourse and tampon use while your incisions are healing.
