Botox is not only one of the most extensively studied aesthetic treatments, it is also the only approved prescription treatment used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and "crow’s feet". Over time, repeated movements of the skin between the brows and muscles around your eyes cause the formation of lines. With Botox, the frown lines and crow's feet are reduced, not your facial expressions. With a small injection into targeted muscles, the movement of the muscles that make the lines appear is reduced, thus improving the appearance of the skin. A few days after injection, you will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet and frown lines between your brows. The expected results last approximately 4 months.
Aging is a part of life, but that doesn't mean we can’t have a natural looking treatment regimen. Here at Lift Plastic Surgery, we offer a wide array of injectable treatment options for the restoration and improvement of the face. Some of the products we offer include: Restylane, Voluma, Vollure Volbella and Juvederm.
Restylane, a hyaluronic acid, has several targeted treatments for facial tissue. Their new Refyne and Defyne products are designed for mid-to-deep injections for the correction of facial wrinkles and folds such as “smile lines” (nasolabial folds). It is formulated to act like your body's own naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, and ads restorative volume to the shape of your facial expressions. Volbella XC and Restylane Silk is specifically formulated to soften and fill the fine lines around the mouth and lips. It can also add structure and definition to your lips for a fuller, more plump look. Restylane Lyft was developed for use in nasolabial folds, for cheek augmentation, and correction of age-related midface changes.
Voluma XC is used to lift and contour your cheeks. As we age, we not only lose fat and collagen, but the overall tissue volume of our face as well.
Juvederm, also a hyaluronic acid, also has multiple products which allows customization of your treatment plan. Juvederm and Juvederm Ultra are used in the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Adding the volume back not only maintains your youthful appearance, but also makes your results looks soft and natural.
The expected results last for :
Restylane, Juvederm, Volbella: up to 1 year
Vollure XC: up to 18 months
Voluma XC:up to 2 years
The "double chin" can be addressed now with non-surgical injections of Kybella. Treatments vary depending on the surface area that has excess fat. There will be 2-4 injection sites and a blunt cannula used for the injection. Each treatment is 6 weeks apart and total treatments can vary between 2 to 6 treatments. Generally, the area that is treated with Kybella will not accumulate fat as the cells have been degraded.
Kybella is FDA approved for the neck but it has been found to work on that stubborn under-arm/bra fat as well!
The active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps in the breakdown and absorption of fat. The fat dissolves and is then excreted by the kidneys and intestines.
Treatment involves injection of the acid underneath the skin in the area of excess fat. Injections take 4-5 minutes to do. Afterwards, there can be some pain, swelling, and bruising for a few days. Most patients will need 2-4 vials of Kybella injected into each area over a span of 2 visits (6 weeks apart) to obtain optimal results. However, results are permanent!
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a substance taken from your own blood to help rejuvenate your skin. It can be injected alone to help stimulate collagen formation and fill in small amounts of missing volume. PRP can also be used in conjunction with fillers or fat to help stimulate healing and retention of the volume replaced. PRP augments the time the fillers last and the percentage of fat that is retained.
How is PRP used and what does it do?
PRP therapy has multiple uses including: hair restoration and rejuvenation of the under eye area, cheeks, the neck and hands. PRP improves skin texture, acne scarring, and fine lines and facial wrinkles. It can reduce dark circles around the eyes, and improve skin tone and structure. It can also stimulate hair growth.
How many treatments are required to see a result?
Usually 2-3 treatments that are 4-6 weeks apart
What is the process?
Blood is taken in the office and then put into a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the blood until it separates into the different parts. Once the blood separates, the PRP is removed and is ready for injection. A topical anesthetic is used to make the area numb or a nerve block can be performed with injection of local anesthetic. This takes 15 - 20 minutes. Once the area is numb, the PRP is injected, or the filler/fat is injected with a blunt cannula. After the filler is completely injected, the area around the filler is injected with PRP.
What is recovery like?
Naturally, there is some swelling occurs that occurs over the first 48-72 hours as water is drawn to the area, and then gradually subsides. Bruising may occur, but should resolve within 5-7 days.
Do I sweat too much?
Hyperhydrosis is a medical condition which causes excessive sweating not related to heat or exercise. People with hyperhidrosis may soak through clothing and/or have constantly sweaty palms or feet. The type of hyperhidrosis that usually affects the hands, feet, underarms or face typically causes at least one episode a week, during waking hours, and tends to go away during sleep. The sweating usually occurs on both sides of the body. It may affect one body area, or multiple areas. This type of heavy sweating can be embarrassing and cause social anxiety or trouble with employment.
What does Botulinum toxin do for sweat?
Botulinum toxin blocks the chemical that stimulates sweating to occur. Local injections into the area around the sweat glands are FDA approved for the armpit.
For both armpits, a total of 100 units are needed for adequate treatment. Effects will last for 6 to 12 months.
For palms and feet, a total of 75 - 100 units per hand or foot due to the size of the area. This is off-label use from the FDA.
There can be a significant improvement in symptoms after only one treatment
Depending on the plan, treatments may sometimes be covered by insurance as well
